Take the word "should" out of your resolutions. ;)

I thought I’d write a short post about getting motivated to change a habit or lifestyle as the new year begins.   I found this article and decide I cannot say it any better than Yoda:

“Yoda said it best:
Do or do not.  There is no try.
There is NO “should” either!
It’s time to… stop saying should, and start DOING it.
Start here: Every time you say “should,” drop and give me 10 push ups.  I don’t care where you are or what you’re doing.  Trust me, it’ll be funny.

I recommend reading the entire article, from Nerd Fitness, especially if you are saying to yourself, “I just don’t know how to get started.”

I agree that “should” must be banned for our vocabularies, when we are talking about ourselves.   Saying “I should go to the gym, or eat better, get outdoors more, go back to school, or…,” is the same as saying that we know what is good for us, but we have no intention of doing it.  That’s just crazy.  😉

Instead of “I should”, we will say “I am.”  Make your statement an affirmation of your goals.

If you have made any of these resolutions for 2019, we are here to help:

Go to the gym.   RePlay, our sporting Goods Department, has a great selection of workout wear for the whole family.

Get outdoors. We’ve got snowshoes, ice skates, and many warm layers.

Update your look and/or wardrobe.  We LOVE to help with that!  Just ask.  We’ll put you in a dressing room with several things that you’d never pick for yourself, but you just might love.

Shop more sustainably.  At M&C, we are all about sustainability.  When you shop at M&C, not only are you helping to employ over a dozen people, you are putting money in the pockets of your neighbors who consign the clothing, accessories, sporting goods, and handmade gifts.

There are some resolutions that we may not be able to directly help with, like eating better or quitting smoking, but we can be cheerleaders!  Telling your resolution to someone, and knowing that they will ask how you are doing with it, can be away to help keep yourself on track.  😉  We are here for you! We will cheer you on, and be a source of encouragement to anyone who is trying to do something positive for themselves, the planet and/or the community.
